New bag!

I finally got to Thread Den last week (thanks for the invite, Tess!) for an evening of make-whatever-you-want and it was much fun. And making cupcakes to bring along was great - I can't get enough of baking at the moment. Aanyway, I decided to make a new bag, using roughly interpreted instructions from a super cute book and lovely Lara Cameron fabric that's been in my stash for a while. Forgot how fun it is to try new things (mental note: more new = more fun).

Have also been doing more button/badge making, which seems to be a new obsession. I've moved on from plastic to metal buttons, which are much easier and virtually negate the need for my tutorial. So my advice - go metal people, it's better. I might put some big badges that are made with my fabric in the shop soon...

  1. New bag rocks! You can keep all your buttons in it.

  2. Hey that's great! Where did you get your leather straps from? Have been looking for local leather suppliers and failing miserably... any help would be appreciated! Also, where do you get your metal buttons from as I can only find the plastic ones... :)

  3. Leffler in West Melbourne, I think, is the place to go for leather - but make sure you've got a few hours! And there's a million buttons on eBay (new, that you can buy now). Fun!

  4. Thanks for that - I'll have to try and get down there and bask in the leathery smell! Also, is it hard to put rivets through leather? I want to start making some little pouches with brass studs but not sure how to go about it... any advice?

  5. Hi again!
The rivets I used are pretty easy - you just use this tool that you can get from Leffler, and a hammer. Oh, and you need a leather punch too. Studs are different I think - they clip into each other, yeah? But just as easy and think you can get from Leffler, or definitely from Spotlight. Have fun!
