Reprint

Yay, I have just got more freshly printed yardage back from the lovely Lara & Teegs & Lou (aka Ink & Spindle). The restocking of my Etsy shop was keenly noted by the lovely Penny (aka @pocketcarnival), so I figured it was worth mentioning here.

While I print smaller items myself, all the large-scale stuff is printed with Ink & Spindle. They do an amazing job and are so helpful (read: patient) with me when I'm agonising over colours and shades. This batch is a reprint - of the previously sold out Red Akzidenz and Red Polka Dots, along with a tweaked Teal Akzidenz and Teal Polka Dots (slightly darker shade from the original colour and I love it).

And it took me a while to notice, but the yarn colours I picked to knit with lately are pretty much the same as the colours I've printed my yardage in (except grey, which would look great in a bootie...I'll have to get onto that!) - freaky.

Knitting and crochet to warm the heart on a winter's day

Knitted Lemons, by Sharon Russell.

Whew, that's a long title blog post title. But a fitting one, as knitted and crocheted goods really made my day today. Sharon's lemons, above, are so sweet and seeing them in a cafe at lunch today made me smile. And Sandra's mini granny square, below, nearly ended up in the bin as I didn't see it in the package along with my wrist worms. Thanks Sandra!

Knitting the night away - Part II

I did end up finishing my knitting the other night and here's a snap of the finished shoes. Almost want some for myself but that would be weird...adult baby shoes.

The pattern is here for any keen knitters, although do not underestimate how long it takes to make such tiny little things...unless you're a more experienced knitter than I, in which case it might take you no time at all!

Knitting the night away

For the last few nights I've been making a little something for my sister's baby...something I would have made before she was born, but being on holiday kind of threw things out of whack. And looking at her wee little feet gave me a good (OK, obvious!) idea.

I've knitted quite a few scarves now, but have never actually made anything from a pattern and thought it was definitely time to branch out a bit. Booties are the perfect starting point, I thought, although I had not idea how many new stitches I'd need to learn to make such tiny little things. But after a bit of swearing and a lot of YouTubing, I'm nearly there. And Lily is going to have some cute little Mary Janes that are only a little bit wonky, yay!

I'm stuck on the couch with a cold today, so am hoping I can muster up the energy to finish them off, but in the meantime you can see what they're supposed to look like here.

Winter knitting

I've got this knitting obsession going on that keeps me up at night. It can be a bit annoying, but it means I've got a rainbow of scarves - red, blue, grey, cream, a couple of multi-colours. And soon there'll be a yolk-coloured one. Woot!

The wool, from Pear Tree Yarn, is so lovely and soft, is hand dyed and was first spied at Stitches and Craft (didn't buy it then, regretted it, couldn't stop thinking about it but luckily then found a local stockist - phew.) Of course I then spent about five hours trying to unravel the skein, which ended up in a million knots - argh - but eventually got it sorted out.

And I really like these knit-purl-knit scarves that curl up - they can be skinny which makes them light-weight and quick to knit, but can be wrapped around multiple times to provide lots of much-required warmth for this cold Melbourne winter we're having. If only I had a fireplace and a cat. Sigh.

Knitting and walking

I have a rare day off today (rare at the moment, anyway) so took the opportunity to go for a bit of a walk, as it's quite nice weather - sunny and kind of spring-like, even though it's almost winter. I took some photos, too, something which I don't seem to have done much of lately for whatever reason (too much bike commuting, not enough strolling, probably).

Also took photos of the knitting mentioned in the previous post - the top one is the work in progress - a curled up, skinny, knit/purl scarf using wool I got a little while back, and below that is the completed knit/knit scarf. They are both so easy to knit but it still seems to take me forever to complete!

Autumn Tree

Have been addicted to knitting lately, and have completed one scarf, and another is 1/3 complete. Think the addiction has something to do with the chilly autumnal weather, which inspired the collage tree below. There are so many great coloured leaves around, I can't stop collecting them (another addiction).

OK, time to wake up ... here I come, coffee.

It's Anzac Day

Finally finished a batch of elephants, here are the last two. Not a bad way to spend a public holiday morning, but now it's definitely time for a coffee.

And I got these the other day:

Saw them when in Tassie earlier this year (they're made from Tasmanian wood, I believe), but failed to buy them and have regretted it ever since. Fortunately Wilkins and Kent - which is a little closer to home - also stocks them. It'll be nice to knit with wooden needles, which I've never tried before. And, of course, the polka dots rock.

Wool wool wool

Last weekend I went along to the open day of Fibre Red in Fitzroy, home to lovely handmade knitted clothing. The studio is amazing, as you can see below, and along with a skirt I picked up some more wool. Love the colour, it might end up as a scarf and arm warmers.

Another elephant also made an appearance over the weekend. Love the polka dots.
